By now, you will hopefully have a better idea of what goes on behind the scenes; the main areas being:

• The main procedures room where animals are assessed, anaesthetised  and non sterile procedures are performed.
• The separate cat, dog, exotic animal and isolation wards .
• The operating theatre , with its attached scrub room and anti-contamination measures.
• The Practice Laboratory.

In addition, there is:

• A kitchen specifically for food preparation for the inpatients.
• An instrument cleaning and sterilising room.
• A laundry and changing room.
• A storage room.
• A pharmacy.
• An xray room.
• A hydrotherapy  room

These rooms all interlink enabling a logical work flow, which all starts in the front of house area and the four consulting rooms.

Specific facilities and equipment include:

• A Digital xray machine; xrays (and blood tests) often form the foundations for further investigations, enabling us to find out what’s wrong with an ill animal.
  
• Different sized endoscopes, at one end of the spectrum, suitable for examining a horse’s stomach and at the other end, small enough to look into the smaller airways ( the bronchi) of a cat. 

                               

• Air powered dental drills and suction, ultrasonic descaling and polishing units and a dental xray. These enable us to perform high quality dental care and endontic procedures such as root canal therapy.
• A recently updated ultrasound scanner; this is invaluable for assessing internal organs. Used alongside an electrocardiogram (an ECG), heart conditions can be thoroughly assessed and accurately diagnosed.
• Air driven orthopaedic drills and surgical equipment, enables fracture repairs and elective bone, joint and spinal surgery to be performed that would otherwise mean your pet having to be referred to the UK. (or in some situations having to have a limb amputated).
  
• Blood pressure monitors, intravenous infusion pumps, handheld blood testing equipment which along with much of the above equipment enables most medical  problems to be resolved "in house".
