Hydrotherapy

What is canine hydrotherapy?

Canine hydrotherapy involves the use of structured exercise within warm water in an underwater treadmill.  The water provides warmth, hydrostatic pressure and buoyancy to ensure that your dog can build muscle and recuperate in a controlled environment.

How can it benefit your pet?

  • Reduction in pain, stiffness and swelling.
  • Reduction in the use of anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Aid muscle relaxation.
  • Muscle strengthening, maintenance and restoration.
  • Increase in the range of motion of affected joints.
  • Improved circulation.
  • Cardiovascular fitness (heart & lungs).
  • Increase in neurological sensation.
  • Reduced weight bearing exercise.
  • Weight loss.

What does it involve?

  1. An Initial assessment, following a consultation with a vet.
  2. At this introductory session the therapist will carry out a full orthopaedic assessment, analyse the dogs gait and mobility.
  3. The therapist will then devise a programme to encompass all of your dogs needs.
  4. You will then be given a range of exercises to do at home and be booked in for a course of hydrotherapy sessions.
